When almost anyone mentions expert glass work, the Tiffany name is the first thing many of us think of. Tiffany lamps and glassware has garnered serious interest for longer than one hundred and twenty years. These works of art were the creation of an American artist named Louis Comfort Tiffany. His glassware was equisitely made using a number of different styles of glass including Tiffany favrile, opalescent, fracture, ripple, and drapery.
Tiffany creations include stained glass windows, lamps, vases, pottery, and jewelry. It doesn’t take too much work to learn that there are simply thousands of his glassware pieces all around the world today. This is remarkable when you realize that glass is so fragile. Tiffany designs will impress you mightily when you notice the intricate and time-consuming artistry that each piece required.
Louis Tiffany not only focused on glass, but he was a gifted artist as well. He lived from the late eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century. But his most noteworthy creations were his striking stained glass designs.
His father, Charles Lewis Tiffany, was also a significant artist. The elder Tiffany influenced his son by starting his own jewelry company.
The younger Tiffany got his start in the arts working in New York. For a while he worked as a painter learning from master artists in Paris. But inevitably he was absorbed by glass making.
